The shrimp whitespot virus had probably been nipping away at farmed shrimp production in Asia for over a decade, but it was not until it achieved a critical mass in Taiwan in 1988 that it began killing significant numbers of shrimp.

On May 22, 2017, after biosecurity treatments were completed on seven shrimp farms in southeastern Queensland, the industry inched closer to eradicating the deadly whitespot virus.

Since it was first introduced in Europe in 2006, the use of electrical pulse fishing for flatfish and shrimp has raised questions from skeptics about the unknown effects on marine organisms, the potential detriment to biodiversity and the benthic ecosystem, and the way in which it alters fishing effort and catch efficiency.

Vendors at the the Jingshen market in Beijing’s south-easterly suburb of Fengtai told SeafoodSource that severe pollution has made air transport more difficult and squeezed the supply of shrimp from Shandong, a key base supplying northern China and Shanghai. As a recent example of the problem, the city’s airport was closed for 10 hours recently due to a mix of fog and smog.

Iran's nuclear deal with world powers has provided a big boost to its international trade and economy as a whole, says a deputy economy minister.

"There has been good progress in international business and post-sanctions economy," said Hossein Qazavi in a talk with Exim News website adding, however, that the full benefits of the agreement have yet to emerge.
