Characteristics

  • A small shark. Body moderately stout.
  • Snout moderately long and broadly parabolic or wedge-shaped.
  • Labial furrows very short; spiracles absent; teeth with serrated edges.
  • First dorsal fin not falcate.
  • An inter-dorsal ridge present or occasionally absent on back.
  • Back greyish or grey-brown, belly whitish; a black spot on the 2nd dorsal fin is the only conspicuous marking.
  • Maximum size: 1 m or less (at birth about 31 to 40 cm).

Distribution

The Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman.
