Characteristics

  • Body moderately elongate.
  • Chin with 2 slender barbells which usually reach to, or extend beyond rear margin of preopercle.
  • Villi form teeth in jaws, on vomer and palatines.
  • First dorsal fin with 8 spines, the first spine very short.
  • 5 vertical scale rows in space between dorsal fins.
  • Back greenish, mottled with bronze, silvery white on sides with 2 narrow yellow stripes; caudal fin without dark bands.
  • Maximum size: 23 cm.

Distribution

The Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman.
