Characteristics

  • Body very deep.
  • Mouth small and sub terminal; maxilla immobile, covered with skin and united to cheek.
  • Dorsal and anal fins sub equal in length, originating ahead of mid-body but behind pectoral fin base.
  • Scales very small, cycloid, easily shed.
  • Silvery white on the sides and blue to grey on the back; fins yellowish with dark edge. Young silvery.
  • Maximum size: about 60 cm.

Distribution

The Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman.
