Characteristics

  • Body elongate, extremely compressed razor-like, with sharp ventral edge.
  • Body excased by thin, transparent, bony plates.
  • Rear end of body twisted ventrally, so that the dorsal fin is in the normal position of the caudal fin, which is displaced ventrally.
  • Snout elongate, compressed; mouth very small, toothless.
  • Body silvery. A dark longitudinal line from eye to dorsal (posterior) spine is seen against light.
  • Maximum size: 15 cm.

Distribution

In the north coast of the Persian Gulf.
