Characteristics

  • Body strongly compressed; almost ovate.
  • Gillrakers (including rudiments) 32 to 38 total on first gill arch.
  • Breast naked ventrally to distinctly behind pelvic fins often to origin of 2nd anal fin. the first with 8 spines, the second with 1 spine and 20 to 23 soft rays
  • Opercle with a small black spot. Tongue greyish brown to brown. Inter radial membranes of soft anal fin rays often with a white spot basally.
  • Maximum size: 24 cm (fork length)

Distribution

The Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman.
