Characteristics

  • Body elongate and tubular.
  • Several rows of teeth visible in both jaws even when mouth is closed; a small patch of teeth present on vomer.
  • Longest ray of dorsal fin 4 times as long as last ray, dorsal fin ray 12.
  • Pelvic fin rays sub equal in length.
  • Back and sides brown; belly pale or silvery; distal parts of dorsal, pectoral and particularly caudal fins dusky.
  • Maximum size: exceeds 40 cm total length.

Distribution

The Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman.
