Characteristics

  • Body compressed and oblong.
  • Lips noticeably papillose, upper jaw strongly protractile and without teeth.
  • Lower jaw with a few feeble teeth in young (smaller than 10 cm fork length), absent in adults.
  • Two separate dorsal fins, the first with 7 spines.
  • Breast completely scaled.
  • Young and small adults yellow with black bars, which gradually fade in large adults and are replaced by large black spot.
  • Maximum size: 78 cm (fork length)

The Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman.
