Characteristics

  • Body very deep and compressed; belly with a keel of scutes.
  • Mouth inferior; snout rounded and projecting.
  • Last dorsal fin ray not filamentous.
  • Pre-dorsal scales forming a single series.
  • Back blue/ green; flanks bright silvery; a large jet black spot behind gill opening.
  • Maximum size: 17 cm.

The Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman.
