Characteristics

  • Body fusiform but compressed.
  • Belly with a sharp keel of scutes, head large.
  • Lower jaw strongly projecting.
  • 19 to 22 gillrakers on lower limb of first arch.
  • Swim bladder with a single tube-like extension within the muscles above the anterior part of anal fin (usually on right side).
  • Back blue/green or grey; flanks silvery.
  • Maximum size: 28 cm.

Distribution

The Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman.
